Family of Gresham 2-year-old reeling from child's death

The family of a two year old girl killed in Gresham says they’re reeling over the death of such a young child.

Doctors pronounced Keyana Bravo Hamilton dead Monday at Mt. Hood Medical Center.

Police say the child died from internal injuries. They are investigating the death as a homicide. No one is under arrest.

Amanda Hamilton, Keyana’s aunt, described her reaction to word the child was dead.

“My sister called me and she was hysterical,” she said. “I just kept telling her to shut up---don’t call and say this to me. I could even cry. I was blown away!” said Hamilton.

Crystal Hamilton is the child’s mother. She admitted struggling with a drug addiction but insisted she was off drugs when her daughter Keyana and Jasmin, who is four, were put in state custody.

Crystal says she eventually agreed to an open adoption with a couple connected to the family. She said the couple moved from California to Oregon to adopt the two girls with the idea of keeping them close to the extended family.

“I picked them out myself” she told kgw.com.
