Two teenagers led police on a two-city chase Monday morning
that ended when their allegedly stolen vehicle crashed in
Cape Girardeau.
The pursuit began around 2
a.m. near Ann Wood Estates when a Jackson police officer
noticed a Ford Windstar minivan weaving and crossing the
center line, according to Jackson Lt. Rodney Barnes.
The officer ran a check on
the license plate and found the van was reported stolen in
Madison County. When the officer attempted to pull the van
over, it instead continued south on Kingshighway toward Cape
Girardeau, Barnes said.
Cape Girardeau police
picked up the pursuit and later found the vehicle crashed
off the roadway near the Interstate 55 and Highway 74
interchange, Cape Girardeau police spokesman Jason Selzer
said.
The suspects were seen
fleeing into nearby woods, but they ignored repeated
commands to come out, Selzer said. Only when police officers
told the suspects they had called in a canine unit did they
come out of the woods, he said.
The pair, two 15-year-old
boys, were arrested and taken to the juvenile detention
facility, Selzer said.
Both boys had fled the
Faith Foundation Children's home in Fredericktown, Mo.,
according to Selzer. The stolen van was registered to the
facility, he said. The two teens were not injured in the
crash.
