FCT to present its production this weekend

The summer heat is sizzling — and so is the production of “And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little.”

The Fremont Civic Theater will present the play at 7 p.m. today, 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Royal Peak Academy, 615 Pike Ave.

Written by Paul Zindel, the play revolves around the lives of sisters Ceil, Catherine and Anna, following the death of their overbearing mother.

Ceil, portrayed by veteran actress Terri Stultz, is a school superintendent who has escaped the family home through marriage.

But Anna, portrayed by Jenny Barnes-Gatzke, a high school science teacher, is losing her sanity. Veteran actress and director Jena Davis plays the role of Catherine, the protective sister and an assistant principal who has started to drink “just a little.”

Laughter, tears and fear round out the play, which is rated PG-13 because of content and mild language.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to bring another really great play to the area,” said co-director Tanya A. Gatlin, who directed last year’s spring play, “A Piece Of My Heart,” which was well received in the community.

Kathy Herrin joins Gatlin as co-director and Kim Baber as the show’s producer with Tony Schenk for technical aspects of the show.

“We feel it’s important to us as a community theater group to offer a variety of quality shows,” Herrin said. “We feel this show fits the bill.”

Fremont Civic Theatre, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year, is the oldest continuously operating community theater group in the state. For more information, e-mail FCT at theatre@ris.net.

“We would like to start a competition fund so it can continue to participate and be a viable company in Colorado’s civic theater community,” Herrin said.

There is no admission for the play, but donations will be accepted.
