Gang assault in school leaves victim in hospital

A group of students attending the Academy at Ivy Ridge in Ogdensburg were expelled for beating up a new student. Four 17-year-olds allegedly punched and kicked a 14-year-old boy in the groin area, sending him to the hospital.

The four teens were arrested and jailed. The Academy at Ivy Ridge is a boarding school for troubled teens. The school expelled the four students immediately after hearing about the fight.

Tom Nichols, public relations coordinator, said the issue is taken extremely serious.

"Ivy Ridge has a zero tolerance policy for any bullying that goes on and we take that very seriously and we have cameras to monitor and take care of our young people,” he said. ”And when there is an issue, we deal with it quickly."

Bail for the alleged attackers was set at $2,500 each. They're scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
