Ivy Ridge accreditation delayed

The Academy at Ivy Ridge will have to wait a little longer before being able to issue high school diplomas.

The New York State Board of Regents postponed its consideration of the Academy's accreditation Monday, putting it off until its October meeting at earliest.

The Academy outside Ogdensburg houses and schools troubled teenagers with a goal of behavior modification.

Its accreditation was pulled in 2005 as the State Attorney General investigated charges that the school's diplomas were bogus.

This year, 26 former students and their parents filed a $100 million lawsuit against Ivy Ridge, alleging they were duped into believing the Academy was issuing legitimate diplomas.

Ivy Ridge spokesman Tom Nichols said he hopes this week's delay in accreditation is temporary as the Regents seek more information about the facility's academics.

"Basically they centered around questions about what I refer to as 'inside baseball questions' about the academics,  fine tune questions," Nichols said.

"And we're hopeful that working closely with state ed we'll able to rectify those issues and answer questions to their satisfaction and we expect to be on the October Regents' agenda," Nichols said.
