Rescued Foster Care Drowning Victim Dies

A 12-year-old boy rescued from a creek earlier this month died Tuesday night.

Lenny Ortega was living at Star Ranch Foster Care near Ingram. He was swept away while wading in a rain-swollen creek and had to be rescued from a nearby bridge. He was reportedly under water at least 10 minutes.

Authorities removed 19 boys from the treatment center just days after the incident.

Last year, another boy died while in custody of a staffer at Star Ranch. Mikey Garcia, also 12-years-old, was found not breathing after being forcefully restrained. No charges were filed in that case.
