Anderson Family Attorney Will Seek Venue Change

The attorney for the parents of Martin Lee Anderson said today that when indictments come down in the case, he will seek a change of venue because he doesn't believe a trial in Bay County will bring about justice.

"I told them (Martin's parents) to have faith in the system," attorney Benjamin Crump said. "It's becoming more difficult for me to tell them to have faith in the system."

The parents of the 14-year-old are outraged that the Bay County Medical Examiner, Dr. Charles Siebert, stands by his original conclusion that Martin died from sickle cell trait and not from the beating he received by guards in the Bay County Boot Camp.

Martin was restrained, kicked and hit by guards for more than 20 minutes on Jan. 5 in the boot camp. The Panama city teenager died the next day. The incident was caught on the camp's surveillance video.

Preliminary results from a second autopsy done on Martin after his body was exhumed showed Martin died because he couldn't breathe while being restrained and struck by officers, said pathologist Michael Baden, a New York physician.

In a statement last week, Siebert stood by his original findings that Martin died from the blood disorder.
