Story posted on  2006-04-05 23:04:00

Giovanni "Joey" Aletriz died at Summit Quest Academy in Lancaster County on February 4th...after reportedly being restrained for disruptive behavior.

Allen says Summit Quest officials told her her son died from congestive heart failure...but she's not buying it.

This was not an accident. This was not a mistake, oops I'm sorry. This is nothing short of murder.

Summit Quest Director...Dr. Rich Grala...released this statement..."Summit Quest correctly followed state-approved restraint procedures in a case involving the tragic death of a resident on February 4th. The District Attorney said he found no conduct that would warrant the filing of charges...and Lancaster County Coroner G. Gary Kirchner ruled the manner of death to be accidental.

Allen says Joey went to the hospital three days before he died and had an EKG performed.

She says that EKG showed no abnormalities.

If his heart was enlarged to a capacity where it wasn't working properly or if he had congestive heart failure the waves would have been different. They weren't. He had a beautiful EKG.

Now Allen says she's pursuing a civil suit and pushing lawmakers to ban the use of prone restraints before...she says...someone else gets hurt...or even killed.
