Carolina Springs has represented itself as a center for "severely handicapped students" in order to get public funding from the Sarasota School District. According to their own Contract, they do not accommodate severely handicapped students.

23. AGREEMENT FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA AND CAROLINA SPRINGS ACADEMY.

Recommended Motion: "that the Agreement for Educational Services between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida and Carolina Springs Academy in an amount not to exceed $14,000.00 be approved as presented."

Carolina Springs Academy is a private residential treatment program in South Carolina providing services for severely handicapped students. A Sarasota County ESE student is enrolled in the Carolina Springs program. Carolina Springs provides its own educational program rather than accessing services from the local school district. This Agreement will provide a percentage of FTE funding to support the educational component of the student's program.

Funding will be via FTE generation.
COST: $14,000.00 FUND: OPERATING FY: 0304
DELP & MCHUGH ENCLOSURES: YES
