Key players in the Martin Lee
Anderson case:
Hillsborough County State
Attorney Steve Ober: He was assigned the case in March by Gov.
Jeb Bush after Bay County State Attorney Steve Meadows asked Bush to
appoint an independent prosecutor.
Bay County Sheriff Frank
McKeithen: He was in charge of Bay County juvenile boot camp.
Bay County medical examiner Dr.
Charles Siebert: He performed the first autopsy on Anderson that
concluded he died from natural causes associated with sickle-cell
trait.
Hillsborough County Medical
Examiner Dr. Vernard Adams: He conducted a second autopsy that
concluded Anderson died from suffocation and had ammonia tablets
forced into his nose while his mouth was covered.
State Sen. Tony Hill,
D-Jacksonville: As chairman of the Florida Conference of Black
State Legislators, Hill pressed Bush to hasten the investigation
into Anderson's death.
Attorney Benjamin Crump: He
represents Anderson's parents in a civil suit claiming wrongful
death against Bay County Sheriff's Office and the Department of
Juvenile Justice, seeking more than $40 million for the death of the
teenager.
Former FAMU student body
President Ramon Alexander: He led a sit-in at the Capitol and is
one of the student leaders who spoke with Gov. Bush, challenging the
length of time it was taking to file charges in Anderson's death.
Martin Lee Anderson's mother,
Gina Jones: She often spoke on behalf of Anderson's family and
said she spoke for Anderson, who could no longer speak for himself,
to protest the Bay County Medical Examiner's report and the time it
had taken for charges to be filed against guards who she said were
responsible for her son's death.
