Husband of Woman Beaten by Teens Speaks Out

January 18th, 2007

The husband of a woman brutally assaulted with a frying pan by three pregnant teenagers is speaking out tonight.

The couple has been helping girls during their pregnancies for three years now and until Tuesday, they say it had been a very positive experience. Now they are very discouraged as the three girls involved in the attack remain on the run from police.

Spencer Moody, Victim's Husband: "Physically she's alright, it's just a tough thing to get through."

That's how Spencer Moody describes his wife, who is recovering after three girls in their small group home for pregnant teenagers attacked her on Tuesday, hitting her over the head with a frying pan and tied her up. The girls tied up another student in the program and got away with money and a 2005 minivan.

Spencer Moody, Victim's Husband: "Right now we just hope the girls are going to be ok. They need to be found and taken care of because they are not in the right condition to be running around from the police and hiding. They need to be taken care of."

The girls, two age 15 and another 16, are from California, Texas and Illinois. Because they are juveniles, police are not releasing information about them or their backgrounds. So far, they have eluded police.

The New Hope Maternity home as it is known, is a private center where girls have a place to give in a good environment during their pregnancies.

Spencer Moody, Victim's Husband: "It's been a real joy to do this, very rewarding, good experience, great outcomes. We just stayed small with a few at a time, so with the maternity home, about 20 girls in the last three years."

Despite this trouble, which apparently happened without any warning, the Moody's believe their program was helping to make a difference for young girls in trouble.

Spencer Moody, Victim's Husband: "We've had a lot of parents call and just thank us for the help they got and the way things have turned out. We've had a lot of success doing this."

The Moody's say after what has happened, they are going to have to reconsider if they will continue to help girls through their program in the future. As for the three teenagers, police are following leads, but so far haven't found them.
