Foster Care Baby's Death Ruled a Homicide

October 5, 2006

The death of a 7-month-old baby in foster care has been ruled a homicide. The Clark County coroner tells Eyewitness News the child was killed by blunt force trauma to the head. Baby Charles was taken to Sunrise Hospital in August and then sent back to his foster home. He was later rushed to University Medical Center where he died.

At the time of the baby's death police said the foster mother was a person of interest in the case. But they would only say the investigation is still underway.

Baby Boy Charles, as he's been called, died last August at a Las Vegas hospital. The Clark County coroner has waited two months for the results of toxicology tests.

Finally, the results are in and the coroner believes Charles' death was no accident. The official cause is blunt force trauma to the head. The manner is homicide.

The 7-month-old lived with his foster parents in a home on the west side of the valley. They told police they found the baby unresponsive in his crib.

Baby Boy Charles spent two days in the hospital before succumbing to his injuries.

Throughout the investigation, Metro's Abuse and Neglect detail has called the baby's foster mother a person of interest.

They tell Eyewitness News the investigation is ongoing.
