What does CAICA do? Why do we need your help?

CAICA provides a tremendous service to many individuals who turn to us for help when children and teens who have been abused, neglected, and who have died in residential treatment facilities located both inside and outside the US. In order to continue its work CAICA needs your donations and support.

CAICA has grown at a tremendous rate - the number of people reaching out for our help is unbelievable! We need your financial support to continue doing our work and to provide children with the help they so desperately need.

  • CAICA has been asked to help a mother who is desperately trying to remove her child from a program she believes is abusive. Her parental rights have been ripped from her by the program, forcing her to hire a lawyer. She is not even allowed to speak with her son.

  • A mother lost her son on May 2, 2007. She is trying to raise funds to purchase a head stone for him before what would have been his 16th birthday on 9/11/07. More immediately, she would like to raise funds to keep his Memorial Website on the internet.

  • Today, we have a young man who has been returned to society with no money. He was severely abused for years in a residential facility for teens. He is now displaced, has no money for food, has no transportation, is living in a very unhealthy environment, and desperately needs our help to get his feet on the ground.

  • There are many more like him. While we understand some people believe helping these kids is akin to "enabling", we believe these children truly need our help. They have been locked up and abused for years - it is CAICA's belief they need someone who cares!

  • A girl has recently been placed into a facility in Florida against her will and without good cause. Her mother wants to help her daughter but does not have the financial ability to do so. We would like to pay for an attorney.

  • A child who was severely abused for years in a residential treatment center tried to kill himself. CAICA would like to help the family to ensure this child receives the help he needs.

  • A family desperately wants to remove a child from a residential facility they believe to be abusive but does not have the funds to hire a lawyer. It is a custody issue and the parent is not able to remove the child. We want to help.

The stories are many - they stream in daily. CAICA needs your help to help these families!

CAICA has been instrumental in bringing public awareness to abuse, neglect, and deaths in Residential Treatment Centers (RTC), Therapeutic Boarding Schools (TBS), Boot Camps, Behavior Modification Programs, Mental Health Facilities, Positive Peer Culture Programs, Wilderness Programs, and Residential Christian Programs by:

  • Providing the most comprehensive website on this topic
  • Writing and submitting News Articles and Press Releases
  • Collaborating with Parents, Lawyers, Media, and Government Officials to expose abuse, neglect, and deaths in residential treatment facilities
  • Working with others to effect positive change
  • Networking with other advocates and supporters when abuse is reported
  • Developing a large network of people all over the world who believe in our cause to help stop abuse in residential treatment settings and to hold those who have abused children and teens accountable for their actions
  • Keeping the public informed via weekly List Serv updates provided to Government Officials, Legal Professionals, Media, Law Enforcement Agencies, Fellow Advocates, Universities, Researchers, Parents, and other interested individuals
  • Spearheading a campaign to ban the use of deadly face-down prone restraints
  • Assisting parents and lawyers when children have been placed into programs by one parent without the knowledge or consent of the other parent
  • Providing ongoing support to individuals who reach out for help when children and teens are abused, neglected, or who have died in residential treatment settings
  • Providing information to Universities who then share their findings with others
  • Preparing a letter to staff explaining their rights and responsibilities when witnessing child abuse in residential treatment settings. Below are two websites where the letter can be located: http://a-call-to-staff.blogspot.com/ or at http://caica.org/A_Call_to_Staff_1-27-07.htm.
